“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…”(Ecclesiastes 9:10, NIV)

The posts, the hashtags, the Pinterest pins … we’re all captivated by the hope and promise of a new year. I like this recent phenomenon of choosing a word for the year.

Last year I chose ‘forward’, based on a quote from Ann Voskamp that I plastered on the first page of my scrapbook.

In 2014, my word is diligence.

My decision was inspired by this recent post from literary agent Steve Laube.

As a wife, a parent, a friend, I want to be diligent in strengthening my relationships with others.

In my writing and the various other tasks that make up my daily life, I want to be diligent in completing the task at hand. I have become a mediocre multi-tasker, rushing through life chronically distracted by my to do list.

In 2014, I’m striving toward diligence.

How about you? What’s your word for 2014?
