A Favorite Recipe

I love a scrumptious chocolate chip cookie, don’t you? I’ve tried several and received mixed reviews from my people. During the stay-at-home season of 2020 and beyond, I stumbled across this cookie recipe and I’ve never turned back. My family gobbles them up, so if you give these a whirl, you might want to bake a double batch.

Encouraging Tips for Writers

writing tip, pub tip, writing life, quotes about writing, william faulkner, harlequin

The only thing I know for sure is that writing is like a roller coaster ride. The highest of highs will make you feel like you are at the pinnacle of the writing world. Yet the lowest of lows will make you believe that you’ll never write anything good again. Both scenarios are tricky to navigate, by the way. I haven’t accomplished everything I want to yet in my writing life. Lord willing, I still have miles to go and more books to create. I’m sharing this quote that Harlequin created from one of the great writers. It’s not pretty. It’s not rocket science. It is true, though. Keep writing. It’s the only way you can move forward in your current project and in your career. Seeking community with other writers, both the ones who are miles ahead and the ones who are in the lane beside you, will make this journey much more enjoyable and fulfilling.

Other encouraging writing tips are available allllll over the internet. Some of my favorite resources when I need encouragement and practical tips: Learn How to Write a Novel and the Novel Marketing podcast via Author Media. My literary agent Steve Laube has a fantastic website packed full of great insight regarding the publishing industry. The team at BookEnds Literary also have created a wonderful blog that I’ve found to be tremendously helpful.

If you’re interested in writing for Harlequin, they keep an updated website and often share calls for new submissions on social media. Love Inspired editor Emily Rodmell is quite generous with tips related to publishing and specifically writing for Love Inspired. You can find her here.

Epic Links to Can’t-Miss Interviews

As a total word nerd and voracious reader, I am thrilled modern technology grants consumers and creators the ability to connect. From podcasts to webinars, YouTube and Instagram, short-form video such as reels and TikTok, creators are out there in the world, sharing their backstories, helpful tips and sometimes amusing anecdotes about how they arrived at their current role. Here are a few of my recent favorite interviews:

Friends and Fiction interview with NYT Bestselling Author Emily Henry via YouTube

Bobby Bones interviews musician Keith Urban via the Bobbycast and YouTube

Fated Mates Podcast interviews tons of fantastic authors and the commentary regarding the romance genre is incredible.

Alli Worthington interviews a wide variety of creatives who’ve found success in the publishing industry. I have too many favorite interviews to list. You can find out more here.

Thank you for visiting my corner of the internet. I hope you’ve found entertaining content, a book (or three) you can’t live without, and encouraging writing tips. If you missed the story on the homepage of how I became a published author with Harlequin, you can check that out here. I’m not shy about telling people that The Firefighter’s Twins became a book because I entered a contest. So if I can do it, then so can you. Keep writing!
