Happy New Year! I’m so excited to share that my brand-new inspirational romance series, Welcome to Redemption, Alaska, is officially launching. The series begins with The Other Side of Goodbye, a story about love, loss, and second chances set in a small town in Alaska. In this post, I’m sharing the story behind the series, what readers can expect, and where you can read book one.

How This Series Came to Life

In the fall of 2024, I noticed that several of my writing friends were publishing books with Sunrise Publishing. If that name rings a bell, Sunrise was founded by Susan May Warren, one of my all-time favorite authors and a woman in publishing I deeply admire.

I’ve been a student of Susie’s for years through her online writing school Novel Academy. I’ve listened to her teach at conferences, learned from her mentorship, and read several of her inspirational romance books. More importantly, during the summer of 2024, I prayed about what my next step as an author might look like. It felt like the ideal time to level up, if you will. So I went to a writers’ conference in Phoenix, Arizona and I finally voiced the question: How could I become a Sunrise Publishing author?

A few months later, after a meaningful conversation, Susie offered me a five-book deal and we agreed to use a prequel novella to launch the series.

From December 2024 through September 2025, I wrote the first four books in the series, moving through drafting, revisions, proofreading, and production at a pace I’d never experienced before. Thanks to Susie’s incredible editorial insight, her guidance and encouragement, a devoted Sunrise team, and more prayers than I can count, these stories came together.

This season stretched me. The Lord and I had many conversations. There were tears—some real crocodile tears—and a lot of growth. It’s been the most intense season of my writing life… and also the most fulfilling.

I am not the same writer—or person—I was when this journey began.

The Prequel Novella: The Light We Almost Lost

The prequel novella is titled The Light We Almost Lost, and here’s a fun true story: I actually wrote this novella more than ten years ago as part of a multi-author inspirational romance anthology.

Then, with Susie’s help, it received a full glow-up: A new title, a new cover, and fresh revisions. Readers are responding beautifully, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

The heroine of The Light We Almost Lost may feel familiar if you’ve read some of my other books…and she also steps into the spotlight as the heroine of Book One, The Other Side of Goodbye.

(No spoilers, of course).

Book One: The Other Side of Goodbye

The Other Side of Goodbye is a story about love, loss, and the experiences that change us forever.

It explores what happens after abrupt endings—and the unexpected beginnings waiting on the other side of heartbreak. If you’re drawn to emotionally rich fiction with imaginary characters facing very real, gritty struggles then this series was written for you.

Themes you’ll find in Welcome to Redemption, Alaska:

  • Hope and healing
  • Small-town Alaska life
  • Single parents
  • Forced proximity
  • Medical drama
  • Natural disasters
  • Unhealed wounds
  • Faith woven gently through the story
  • And yes… delicious pie

Alaska is my original home, even though I haven’t lived there in many years. Writing this series allowed me to return there in a deeply personal way. My hope is you’ll experience it right alongside the characters.
