The opportunity to write for five minutes on the topic ‘write’?
Well, of course, I’m all in.
Fingers to keyboard. The clock is ticking. Ready set w-r-i-t-e
I write feverishly, in a hurried scrawl that I can barely read. I heard two of my favorite authors say that’s how ‘they’ write their first drafts. So why not? If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. It’s freeing, really, to put pen to paper. No blinking cursor to intimidate, telling me I’ve got it all wrong and I’m no good at this thing I’ve set out to do … this dream I’m chasing is really just a hobby, anyway. Isn’t it?
That cursor is my nemesis, I’ve learned. Hours spent in front of a screen, agonizing over which word to choose. It’s too easy to delete with the keyboard before me.
But lined paper and my favorite pen? I’m there. The words flow out, sometimes faster than I can write them down and my heart sings. Perhaps, just maybe, this is one of the things I was put on this Earth to do.
Before I know it, I’m writing more in an hour than I’ve ever written in a day. The pages fall across my table, disheveled.
But I write … with reckless abandon, delighted in this journey I’m traveling with these characters.
In this 31 days of blogging, there are hundreds of writers taking the scary big leap of sharing their work with the world. Won’t you join us? I’m linking up with Lisa Jo Baker and a fabulous community of five minute Friday bloggers. We’d love to read your contribution, too. Yes!! An old fashioned girl!! I love pen and paper. There is something about that touch that just works.

I’m going to try and hand write. Maybe that will help me get over some of my blocks writing on the computer!
This is so great, Heidi! I love this – and I know that I can fall into the routine of typing out what I have to say – but it seems that if I take pen to paper – well, it is different… better!
I think that is awesome…I am better on the computer than actual paper…but there is a lost art there for sure. Same goes for sending actual mail vs an email or text. I need to get better about that! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, ladies. I didn’t think pen and paper was the answer to writer’s block (and it isn’t always effective), but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much more I can write in a shorter amount of time. It might also have something to do with less access to social media when it’s not just a mouse click away, either. 🙂
Happy writing!
