I’ve encountered a bit of a road block in my current manuscript. My hero is in a tight spot and I don’t know how to write him out of it. Secondly, what role will the heroine play in all of this? Who has the most at stake? My first solution was to go out for coffee with a dear friend. But we’re mothers of preschoolers and all good coffee dates must end in favor of relieving our childcare workers and more importantly … starting nap time. (For the preschooler, not for me). When I’m ‘stuck’, I like to visit Pinterest. Some call it procrastinating, I call it ‘research’. Today I revisited the Pixar ‘rules of storytelling’ pins and … found it in a Lego version.
Be still my heart.
As a mother of three boys, anything presented Lego style is a win in my book.
I’m giving credit to the folks over at Buzzfeed for originally posting this.
If you aren’t familiar with Pixar’s rules of storytelling, you can click here. I haven’t done a tremendous amount of research, but I believe the 22 rules were originally posted as nuggets of wisdom gleaned by a Pixar story artist named Emma Coats. I find these tips extremely helpful and inspiring in developing my story.
