About Heidi McCahan
Inspirational Romance Author
Heidi’s Story
Heidi McCahan is an inspirational romance author whose upbringing in Alaska’s scenic wilderness ignited her passion for storytelling. Growing up in a family-owned lodge, Heidi spent summers immersed in the bustling tourism industry, fostering her boundless imagination and entrepreneurial spirit. When her older sister brought home a handmade book she’d created at school, Heidi wanted to know exactly how to make her own. Eventually, she typed, illustrated, and produced The Story of Snowball My Colt and The Family. It’s a short but sweet missive that still sits on Heidi’s bookshelf today.
Driven by her thirst for adventure, Heidi ventured beyond the majestic Chugach Mountains surrounding her hometown to pursue higher education, earning both a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine and a Master’s Degree in Athletic Training. During cross-country practice in college, she eavesdropped on a conversation between two athletes. They were discussing one athlete’s mother’s career as a successful romance author. Heidi secretly longed to be a writer, but the dream felt hopelessly out of reach. She had never heard of someone’s mom writing romance novels before, so she filed the name ‘Debbie Macomber’ for future reference. Following a brief yet rewarding stint as a Certified Athletic Trainer, she started a new chapter by marrying her husband, Steve. They lived in Oregon and Washington, where Heidi saw a Debbie Macomber made-for-TV movie, remembered that conversation she’d heard back in college, and dusted off her big dream of becoming an author. In 2010, she and her family relocated to picturesque North Carolina. It took several years of writing, submitting, and getting rejection letters before Heidi’s first novel Unraveled was published in 2014.
Heidi is a proud member of My Book Therapy and American Christian Fiction Writers. Her romance books have garnered nominations in various contests, and in 2023 and 2024 her Love Inspired novels His Easter Baby, Her Alaskan Companion, A Baby in Alaska, and Her Alaskan Family all landed on the prestigious Publishers Weekly Bestsellers list.
Heidi’s books beautifully blend elements of small-town charm, second chances, and heartfelt romance, captivating readers seeking wholesome, feel-good stories. With a penchant for happy endings and an unwavering love for coffee and dark chocolate, Heidi invites you to escape into her world of love, faith, and the promise of forever.
