weekend

Whew. I’m fading fast on this write 31 days challenge. How about ‘write 17 out of 31 days’ ?? Or ‘write when you can find a spare minute to breathe’ ? Now I know why challenge participants work ahead. Note to self: a 31 day challenge might be more enjoyable with some advance preparation.

{remind me of this next September 30th when I dive right back into the challenge with zero prep, k? Thanks.}

All whining aside, today’s prompt, weekend, feels like a little pick-me-up.

Weekends are mostly a welcome break from the daily routine around here. We aren’t super busy, our kids are still happiest at home with occasional outings thrown in, our soccer commitment is super low key…we are truly in a sweet season and I’m trying to appreciate it. Really. I am.

There’s a tendency in our culture to saddle a weekend with extremely high expectations. If you don’t have an epic adventure planned or a packed social calendar or a party and a soccer game planned for the littles, then clearly the weekend is a failure.

Nope. Not this introvert. The sounds of my family puttering around and a good book, beautiful fall foliage, and a second (or third) cup of coffee or tea is my idea of a lovely weekend.

This post is day 20 of 31 days of five minute free writes.
