2013-07-06 09.15.43At first glance, they are adorable. Three boys. Three chairs. Caught in a candid moment that melts a mama’s heart.

But this is the last time they’ll sit in these chairs for awhile. The car is jam-packed with all our worldly possessions–at least the ones we thought we couldn’t live without for a week–we’re sweating from the humidity and minutes from missing our 9am check-out time.

These stinkin’ chairs have been a huge source of conflict. Prior to this photo op, they have argued to the point of tears every.single.time. there was an opportunity to sit here. They rocked the chairs hard enough to flip, lifting the rocker up and conking a certain three year old in the head, then they were never satisfied with the color of their chair…or else they fought about who had the biggest and on and on…

As I write this post, I’m back home in our real house. The demands of this crazy, messy life are creeping in, threatening to steal my joy. While I won’t soon forget their trivial bickering, I can look past it and choose to see the joy in this circumstance.

I can marvel at the beautiful gifts God has given my husband and me: three precious boys that He entrusted to our care.

And maybe, just maybe, when things don’t go my way, I can remember to find joy in the moment instead of arguing with God over the color and the size of the blessing He didn’t even have to give me to begin with.

I’m linking up with Crystal Stine  today and her Behind the Scenes post “where   we show those photos – but tell the real story behind them. The sneak peek behind the scenes, a look past the edges of the photo to the real life behind it.”
